Appel à candidatures pour le Laboratoire Franco-Espagnol d'Astrophysique des Canaries
This Call of Opportunity includes the possibility to apply to two different Calls at the Spanish-French Laboratory for Astrophysics in Canarias (FSLAC) - IRL-2009:
- C1: a first call for a long-term position for a start from September 2022. This position is open for a minimum stay of one year, and up to 3 years;
- C2: a second independent call for shorter-term visits (several months to less than a year) to work and collaborate with researchers at FSLAC and the Institute of Astrophysics in Canarias (IAC).
Successful candidates will be based either at the Teide Observatory on the island of Tenerife or at the Roque de La Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma.
The Spanish-French Laboratory for Astrophysics at Canarias (FSLAC), founded in 2021, is a joint International Research Laboratory resulting from a successful partnership in astrophysics between the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Institute of Astrophysics in Canarias (IAC). This laboratory completes a rich ecosystem of collaborations: about twenty international research projects and networks, and about thirty emerging actions, associating the CNRS and its French partners with Spanish institutions and concerning all scientific fields, testify to the dynamism of the bilateral cooperation.
FSLAC will reinforce the numerous scientific and instrumental collaborations between the French and Spanish communities, in particular around three major research axes in international collaborations involving heavy equipment, but not limited to them:
- in very high energy gamma-ray astronomy with the CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) project for the installation of an array of several dozen telescopes;
- in solar physics around the Themis telescope already established in the Canary Islands and operated jointly since the 1980s;
- and in the development of ground measurements of the cosmic microwave.
Conditions to apply to FSLAC: candidates must hold a permanent position in France, either at CNRS, at observatories or at universities. The successful candidate of the C1 call will have to be assigned to the Canary laboratory by his/her home institution and it is therefore necessary to inquire with this institution about the feasibility and the conditions applicable for this assignment before applying for the position.
Applications: Applications should include a CV of the candidate, a research program describing current and/or planned research collaborations in the Canary Islands. It is strongly recommended to have contacted Spanish researchers at the IAC before applying, and preferably to propose a joint research program, although this is not an absolute requirement. Applications in all areas of astronomy research are welcome.
The initial deadline for applications is March 15, 2024 and evaluation will begin immediately thereafter. C1 and C2 applications will be received until the positions are filled. Applications should be sent to CNRS/INSU (attention: Deputy Scientific Director Astronomy-Astrophysics, Martin Giard, martin.giard@cnrs-dir.fr and INSU Representative for France at the CCI: Aurélie Marchaudon, aurelie.marchaudon@irap.omp.eu).
